SomaChi Yoga
Established 2000Our yoga style
Soma is the alive body and Chi is energy. SomaChi is a fluid and flowing style of yoga. It is about being in the movement rather than just merely doing it – ‘enjoyment in motion’. It is contemporary in nature, but holds respect to tradition and lineage.
As a body practice
SomaChi adopts the Ashtanga-Vinyasa yogic techniques for strength, including traditional down dog, chaturanga, and up dog transitions. We use circular and rolling motions to bring more presence to our movements. Energy techniques are also incorporated for sensory and kinaesthetic awareness of our bodies and the space around us.
As a mind practice
We incorporate traditional mindfulness techniques, mantra, mudra and visualisations to help with constricted patterns of anxiety or distress. These are grounded in tradition, and have been tried, tested and proven as a means to everyday well being .
As a spiritual practice
We consider spiritual practice to be an art form and a science. Our contemporary methods can be found in the weaving of sequences and enjoyment in movement. Our traditional methods find its roots in Buddhism and Taoism examining what spirituality and mindfulness is through self-enquiry, and how it can be incorporated and useful to daily life.
