You will practice standing poses, seated poses and some basic backbends and preparations for inversions. Build your experience for invigorating a physical and mental practice.
Wedensday 7.30 PM with Lianne Metcalf
*Suitable for beginners
This class is broken up into segments. The first 30 minutes is a combination of somatic applications to deep stretching and breathing techniques, 15 minutes meditation, finishing with either humming, mantra, and or energy work.
The purpose of this class is to recognise the qualities of body, mind, energy, and to enter into bigger spaces which allows for the possibility of deep rest from over thinking, and over doing.
What to bring:
- Try to arrive to class early enough to be prepared and on your mat at the start time (particularly your first class). Consider this part of your practice.
- Wear light comfortable clothes like tracksuit pants or sports top.
- You can bring your own mat, we have hire mats ($2).
- Water bottle.
- Towel—We use Hydronic Heating to 24C, as well as working on internal heat, so you may sweat …
- It is suggested to allow 3 hours after a large meal, and an hour for light meals before doing a Yoga class.
Go with the flow …
I knew as soon as I walked through the doors of Somachi that I had found the studio for me. It’s warm embrace was palpable. My instincts were confirmed after a few classes as each and every teacher there took us through dynamic flows and encouraged us to work, play and have a laugh. What became apparent very soon after becoming a member was that I hadn’t only joined a yoga studio, I’d also become part of a community. It has been over six months and I am so glad that I have found this little community in Collingwood. I never regret a class; no matter how hard it is to find the motivation to get there sometimes (especially in the colder months!), I always walk out with a smile.
I have been fortunate to be practicing SomaChi yoga for many years. I first met Lianne when she came to my office to teach yoga. I quickly found her studio in Prahran and started attending her SomaChi classes, from there to South Yarra to Collingwood I have followed SomaChi. The classes are beautifully flowing and elegant with a gentle manner. All of the teachers are warm and friendly and there is great energy in each class. Such a joy to practice here.
I thoroughly enjoy my time practicing yoga at SomaChi! The teachers are great. In particular I enjoy Emily’s classes the most, she is very meticulous and helped develop my technique and for that I am very grateful. Not only is their price extremely competitive but the classes are also of high quality. Thanks guys!!
