About Osho Kundalini Meditation
Kundalini is a Sanskrit word which identifies with the dormant energy (Shakti) that has been coiled at the base of the spine like a snake. Kundalini awakening is a very profound experience for those who are earnest to reach a heightened state of consciousness, which helps gradually release many old patterns, conditions and delusions of the separate self. Different spiritual traditions teach methods of awakening kundalini for the purpose of reaching spiritual enlightenment and activate a range of psychic powers.
The Kundalini meditation lasts one hour and has four stages. Being fully immersed in the shaking and dancing of the first two stages helps to “melt” the rock-like being, wherever the energy flow has been repressed and blocked. Then that energy can flow, dance and be transformed into bliss and joy. The last two stages enable all this energy to flow vertically, to move upwards into silence. It is a highly effective way of unwinding and letting go at the end of the day. This simple meditation technique is developed by Osho, an enlightened spiritual master and mystic whose teaching emphasises the importance of meditation, awareness, love, celebration, courage, creativity and humour.
Anjali first learned this technique when she was staying at the Osho International Meditation Resort in Pune, India. During her time at the meditation resort, Anjali learned many meditation techniques devised by Osho (there are 112 ways to meditate), she also took Sannysin there with the name of Prem Anjali. Prem means love and Anjali means Divine offering.
First stage: 15 mins
Be loose and let you whole body shake, feeling the energies moving up from your feet. Let go everywhere and become the shaking. Your eyes may be open or closed.
(allow the shaking, don’t do it! Stand silently, feel it coming and when your body starts a little trembling, help it, but don’t do it!)
Second stage: 15 minutes
Dance… any way you feel, and let the whole body move as it wishes. Your eyes may be open or closed.
(Dance with joy because the more blissful you are, the more the energy moves upward; the more the energy moves upward, the more blissful you become.”)
Third stage: 15 minutes
Close your eyes and be still, sitting* or standing… witnessing whatever is happening inside and out.
Fourth stage: 15 minutes
Keeping your eyes closed, lie down and be still.
(*It’s useful to sit, so that the whole body disappears and only the spine remains. The energy moves upward through the spine and all the energy gathers in the spine).
